A Nordic Design Vision: Piet Boon Architects

We present one of the Netherland's greatest current designers: Piet Boon

Piet Boon’s award-winning design practice specialises in contemporary architecture, interiors and luxury goods. Renowned for their ability to seamlessly combine exceptional craftsmanship with timeless design, their portfolio boasts private, corporate and commercial clients from no less than 46 countries around the world.

Based in Oostzaan (an area just outside Amsterdam, Netherlands), the Dutch designer established his practice in 1983. Having started his career as a building contractor, Piet has a privileged understanding of both a project’s design and subsequent implementation. This rare insight in both disciplines allows the studio total ownership of each project with the designer able to realise his true vision. In 1986, Piet was joined by business partner, Karin Meyn. As creative director, Meyn’s exceptional eye for detail, colour and form have been integral to defining the studio’s now signature style.

Collaboration also forms a significant part of the studio’s workload. Ensuring that each company shares a similar approach and philosophy, their selection of brand association partners includes Miele, Bang & Olafson and Bod O’r. A recent partnership with Jaguar Land Rover provided Piet with the opportunity to design limited editions of several of their existing models (below).  Additionally Piet Boon® has licensing agreements with 11 partners, including Moooi, Formani and Warendorf.

The end of 2014 saw the conclusion of one of Piet’s biggest forays into the American design scene. In partnership with Lepere, Piet Boon designed a collection of furniture that was launched at the New York Design Centre’s ‘ What’s New, What’s Next’ exhibition. Released to much critical acclaim, the studio are now working on several projects in the USA, alongside a number of high-end hospitality projects, resorts and hotels.
